§ Strata · 01The problem

The tool is always in another tab.

The AI is genuinely good now. That was never the issue. The issue is where it lives. It sits in a browser tab, behind a login, in a window that isn't the one you're working in. So every time you want it, you leave what you're doing to go get it.

You're mid-sentence in an email. You stop, switch windows, and re-type the context you just walked away from. You paste, you wait, you copy the answer back, you fix the formatting. Then twenty minutes later you do the whole thing again. None of it is hard. It just never stops.

The loop you already know
  1. 01 Leave the app you're in
  2. 02 Re-explain the context
  3. 03 Paste the text
  4. 04 Wait for the answer
  5. 05 Copy it back, fix formatting
  6. 06 Find your place again

Six steps to do one small thing — and the AI was supposed to be the shortcut.

§ Strata · 02What that costs

The cost isn't the seconds. It's the thread.

A context-switch is cheap to measure and expensive to live. The few seconds aren't the damage — the broken focus is.

Each detour is small. You take dozens a day. Together, they're the work.

The moment you switch windows, the sentence you were building is gone. You come back, re-read what you wrote, rebuild the thought, and only then get going again. That reset costs far more than the lookup did.

And it compounds. A tab for writing. A tab for code. A tab for translation. A tab for summaries. Each one promised to save you time, and each one lives somewhere that isn't where your cursor is. The intelligence is everywhere — just never in the document you're actually in.

You don't feel one switch. You feel the end of the day, when the deep work never happened because it kept getting interrupted by the tool that was meant to help.

§ Strata · 03The turn

What if the tool came to the text?

No new window. No tab to return from. No context to re-explain. The AI stops living somewhere else — and shows up exactly where you already are.

One keypress, in place

Select the text.
Press ⌘⌥E.

Strata runs your AI on the selection and writes the result back exactly where your cursor sits — inside Mail, Slack, Notes, VS Code, Safari, Arc. The window you would have opened never opens. The loop above never starts. The thought you were holding stays whole.

The Strata enhance key — one shortcut that rewrites selected text in place
§ Strata · 04What one shortcut does

One keypress. Any job. You decide what it means.

The shortcut never changes. What it does is a mode — a saved system prompt you write once. Switch the behavior by switching the mode; the keypress stays the same.

A set of custom AI modes, each a saved system prompt — writing, code, web, and ideas
A mode is a saved prompt

Write the behavior once. Trigger it anywhere.

Name a mode, pick a provider and model, describe what it should do. That mode is now one keypress away in every app — no menus, no setup repeated. Browse ready-made ones in the community Mode Library, or build your own.

Frequently asked

The doubts before you switch.

Does it really work in every app?

In the apps where you do most of your writing, yes — Mail, Slack, Notes, VS Code, Safari, Arc, and the rest, native or Electron. Strata reaches into the text field and replaces your selection where it sits. The whole point is that you stop leaving the app; if it only worked in one, it wouldn't solve the loop.

What about apps that block inline edits?

A few apps lock their text fields, so nothing can write into them. When that happens, Strata doesn't fail silently — Enhance Me opens with ⌘⇧E instead. You paste or drag the text in, run your mode, and copy the result back in one move. Slower than fully inline, but you still never open a browser tab or re-explain the context.

Isn't this just autocomplete or Grammarly?

Not quite. Autocomplete predicts what comes next. A Grammarly-like editor can be just one of many Strata modes — and you set the rules. Fix grammar without flattening your voice, tighten your writing, or match your brand style: build the version that sounds like you, then call it with one shortcut anywhere you type.

Do I need an API key, and how is my data handled?

You don't need an API key to start — every plan includes monthly AI requests. With Pro, you can use your own provider API key, stored in the macOS Keychain. Strata connects directly to that provider, so requests do not pass through Strata's servers. Configuration stays local, AI requests are not logged, and your data stays on your device.

Do I need an account?

One email, one-time code — no password to create or leak. Your plan and included monthly requests follow your account.

Close the loop

Stop leaving the app. Bring the tool to the text.

Download Strata for macOS 26 or later, browse the Mode Library, and see what happens when the AI finally shows up where your cursor is.
